After purchasing a SIRUI. K-40II Ball Head, and a SUNWAYFOTO L Bracket for the 5D MkIV. Yes, the ball is 54mm in diameter, and the head is capable of holding 35 kilos in weight.
But after purchasing other heads by well known brands. And finding the camera will creep with smaller ball heads, and even worse when the camera is positioned in portrait mode. The new ball head works a treat, quarter turn, and no movement from the camera. Plus the L Bracket does away with trying to find the slot, and then recomposing the shot.Camera stays over the centre of the tripod in portrait mode, just a case of turning the knob on the quick release, turning, and retightening.
This is also the first ball head I have owned, that has a panoramic scale for composing multiple images. The head, is still not a dedicated panoramic head. One that keeps the node of the lens over the centre of the tripod. But I am impressed with my results so far!
